How to Survive Outdoor Photography For Your Wedding
By the end of your wedding day, expect to be completely over being photographed. From start to finish, you will be hustled here and there, all in the name of a photo op. For brides and grooms who opt for an outdoor wedding in the summer, withstanding photographs can be particularly difficult. The culmination of stress, exhaustion and weighty attire, all topped off with constant sunshine, can be overwhelming. Keep reading to learn how to prepare for outdoor wedding photography ‒ at least until you have a cocktail in hand.
Stay Hydrated
There is nothing quite as scary, or embarrassing, as a postponed wedding due to dehydration. Brides and grooms alike should be consuming the recommended 64 fluid ounces of water a day. This includes leading up to and the day of your wedding. It is as simple as keeping a cooler of water bottles on hand. If you’re feeling a bit flushed, you can also place a cold water bottle or icepack on your neck or forearms, for a quick cooling effect.
Have Makeup On-Hand
How do you ensure your face makes it through the day? The simple answer is to wear makeup and have powder and lipstick nearby. Be sure to choose products that can withstand the weather. Otherwise, you risk it melting right off your face, leaving you a streaky mess. Do your research and find a professional makeup artist who has the skills, and products, to get you through the most extreme weather. We recommend the tried and true airbrush makeup, which could probably withstand a tidal wave.
Pull Your Hair Up
You may already have a hairstyle in mind for your wedding, but have you considered the weather? If your wedding will take place outdoors, or you plan on taking some photographs outside, your will have to. If your hair is long enough to reach your shoulders or collarbones, it can contribute to how much you sweat. However, with an updo, your neck will remain exposed to the air and help you stay cool throughout the day and evening.
Bustle Your Dress
Depending on the style of your wedding dress, you may have a train. During the summer, a dress train can feel especially heavy. To help alleviate the hassle of carrying it, and to displace the weight, we recommend using a bustle. A bustle is an easy way to put up and take down your dress for various activities, so that you won’t have to lug it around as you move. If your dress doesn’t already have a bustle, you can have it added by a tailor.
Find Some Shade
The day of your wedding, you will find yourself rushing around to stay on schedule, with little time for rest. If you are outside, be sure to take some shaded breaks out of the relentless sunshine. Heat stroke is no joking matter, and it can easily happen in a heavy dress with little to no ventilation. Try to take at least a two to three minute shaded break, each time you need water. If there are no trees or nearby buildings, create some shade with an umbrella.
