How to Handle Having to Reschedule Your Wedding
You have made the difficult decision to reschedule your wedding. Now what? With the current state of world health, the CDC officially recommended the cancellation of weddings in the United States for eight weeks. Specifically until May 15, 2020. This has left many bride and groom’s with no other choice than to reschedule, as the show must go on. To help you in this stressful time, we have compiled a short list on how to handle the process.
Take a Deep Breath
Just breathe. It is okay to be upset, disappointed and stressed. Planning a wedding at all is difficult, much less rescheduling it. You will come across a lot of obstacles during this process and you need to be ready for some heartbreak. Not everything will turn out the exact same as you had originally planned. Try your best to roll with the punches and accept help from family and friends when possible.
Contact Your Vendors
Prior to contacting your vendors, read through their contract and understand their rescheduling policy. Be aware that you may face a fee to reschedule; however, MOST (including Florafost Photo) are waiving all rescheduling fees due to these tough times. Upon reaching out, be clear that you need to speak to them urgently. Be prepared to discuss potential dates and have your preferences lined up. An unfortunate reality of rescheduling is that not all of your vendors will be available. Be prepared for this, particularly with your venue and photographer. Start researching alternatives in case this issue occurs.
Call Your Guests
Don’t really on snail mail or email to contact your guests. They need to be updated immediately, to cancel and reschedule their travel arrangements. Call them personally to deliver the news and a second time with a new date and information. In the meantime, share any pertinent information you do know. If your wedding is being rescheduled for much later, you might just inform them that they will receive a new invitation. You should also be prepared for the potential news that some guests will no longer be available to attend.
Rethink the Details
Depending on the date when you choose to reschedule the wedding on, you may want to rethink the details. For example, your early spring wedding may now land in the fall. That means the vibrant floral arrangements and pastel linens you bought might look out of place. Make the necessary vendor cancellations and return any decorations in order to start styling a new look. Or, if you still want to get married on your original date or as close to it as possible, let's elope or get creative with other ways we can tie the knot while practicing social distancing and all of the CDCs recommendations.
Reschedule Your Honeymoon
Not everyone plans their honeymoon immediately after their wedding, but for those that do, don’t forget this important step. Just like your wedding you need to reschedule. Hopefully you purchased travel insurance, in which case the cost should be covered. If you have not planned your honeymoon yet, keep an eye on the news for updates as to when travel will be safe.
